On November 24, Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), visited NJU's newly elected academicians of the CAS: Vice President and Professor Zhou Zhihua from the School of Computer Science/School of Artificial Intelligence, Professor Shi Yi from the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, and Professor Chen Yanfeng from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He extended his heartfelt congratulations and presented them with flowers.
Tan Tieniu congratulated the three academicians and thanked them for their outstanding contributions and the prestige they have brought to the university, schools, and disciplines. He stated that their election is not only an honor for themselves and our university but also a pride for their academic fields, describing it as "the choice that meets everyone's expectations." He expressed hope that the academicians would leverage their disciplinary and talent advantages to seize new opportunities in information technology and artificial intelligence development, and join forces to reach new heights. At the same time, he encouraged them to deepen organized scientific research and multidisciplinary integration, empower their work through AI, take on major responsibilities in significant projects and platform construction, and continuously enhance their capacity to serve national strategic needs, injecting more innovative vitality into building a "strong, wealthy, beautiful, and advanced" new Jiangsu. He encouraged the academicians to uphold the educational spirit of moral cultivation and nurturing younger scholars, to serve as exemplary models in cultivating echelons of top innovative talents, and to write a new chapter for the high-quality development of the university and its disciplines.
Tan Tieniu emphasized that the title of academician embodies countless expectations, and they should hold themselves to higher standards, maintain their scholarly integrity, uphold the style of honesty, simplicity, magnificence, and diligence in learning and practice, and strive to be pioneers at the scientific frontier, leaders of major tasks, guides for young talent growth, and exemplars of the scientific spirit, living up to President Xi Jinping's earnest expectations.



The three academicians expressed gratitude for the university's long-term care and strong support, feeling deeply that their election carries "great responsibility and honorable mission." They stated that they would take this as a new starting point to uphold their original aspiration of serving the country through research, continue to delve deep into academics, plan for frontier disciplines, adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and educating people, accelerate scientific and technological innovation and talent team building, continuously stimulate team vitality and creativity, continuously enhance the ability to tackle key core technologies, accelerate the advancement of high-level self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology, and strive to make new contributions to the development of China's science and technology cause and contribute more wisdom and strength to building a world-class Nanjing University with Chinese characteristics.
