NJU and Freiburg University holds Confucius Institute 2025 board meeting online

At 4:00 p.m. Beijing time on November 26, the 2025 online board meeting of the Freiburg University Confucius Institute, jointly established by Nanjing University and Germany's Freiburg University, was held. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Chair of the Confucius Institute Board; Professor Gand, German Chair of the Board and representative of Freiburg University; as well as First Deputy Mayor of Freiburg City, Von Kirchbach, and other board members attended the meeting.

Tan Tieniu expressed sincere gratitude to Freiburg University and the Freiburg City Government. He affirmed the achievements of the Confucius Institute in the past year in language teaching, cultural communication, and comprehensive cooperation between both sides, praising the institute as one of the most smoothly operated, harmonious, and closely cooperative Confucius Institutes in Germany. He hoped that in its future development, the Freiburg University Confucius Institute would maintain its good momentum, deepen innovation in teaching and cultural activities, expand dimensions of exchange, build a cooperation network, and become a model of collaboration between the two universities, the two cities, and even the two countries.

Board members from the German side expressed agreement and gratitude for Tan Tieniu's remarks, and highly affirmed the work of the Freiburg University Confucius Institute.

The meeting reviewed and approved the 2025 annual work summary, the 2026 annual work plan, and the financial budget and final accounts report of the Confucius Institute, and discussed related issues regarding its operational development.

The Freiburg University Confucius Institute was jointly established by Nanjing University and Freiburg University in 2009. In recent years, this Confucius Institute has integrated into the campus and community to carry out international Chinese education, achieving remarkable results in language teaching, cultural promotion, academic research, and Sino-German cultural exchanges.
