On December 8, the 26th "Innovation and Education" graduate advisor exchange meeting of Nanjing University was held on Xianlin Campus. The meeting was arranged in order to thoroughly implement the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the successive plenary sessions of the 20th Central Committee, to deeply implement the spirit of the National Education Conference and the important reply from General Secretary Xi Jinping to NJU young scholars returning from overseas, to solidly advance the implementation plan of NJU's "Forging Ahead Initiative," to further strengthen the construction of the graduate advisor team, to accelerate the establishment of a top-notch innovative talent cultivation system with NJU characteristics, and to fully build the NJU graduate education brand of "most innovative capability." Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended the conference and delivered a speech.

Tan Tieniu extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed graduate advisors this year, and pointed out that graduate advisors are the backbone force driving NJU to accelerate its progress toward a world-class university with Chinese characteristics; they are the hope of NJU, and also the hope for the nation's scientific and technological self-reliance and talent cultivation. He briefly reviewed the measures and achievements of the university's graduate education work over the past five years, and on behalf of the university's Party Committee, expressed heartfelt thanks and highest respect to all graduate advisors. In his report, Tan Tieniu put forward specific requirements for further strengthening the university's graduate education, especially the construction of the graduate advisor team.

During the award ceremony, Tan Tieniu presented awards to representatives of the university's 2025 Outstanding Graduate Moral Education Advisors.



Vice President and Academician of the CAS Zhou Zhihua presided over the first phase of the meeting.

At the meeting, Li Hao, Minister of the Party Committee Student Affairs Department, read out the "Decision on Commending the 2025 Outstanding Graduate Moral Education Advisors of Nanjing University." To commend the advanced and promote exemplary models, the Party Committee Student Affairs Department and the Graduate School jointly selected 54 Outstanding Graduate Moral Education Advisors for 2025, and will publicize their valuable experiences and vivid deeds in fostering virtue and educating people.
Wang Xiaolei, Dean of the Graduate School, gave the "Nanjing University Graduate Education Development Report" and presided over the second phase of the meeting. Professor Zhang Bowei from the School of Liberal Arts and Deputy Dean Zhang Yan from the Institute of Frontier Interdisciplinary Science, as representatives of advisors in the humanities and social sciences and in science, engineering, and medicine respectively, shared their experiences and reflections on advising and educating students, based on disciplinary characteristics and practical cases. Chen Changkai, Director of the Mental Health Education and Research Center, gave a special report titled "Mental Health and Communication." Ma Yeqing, Director of the Graduate Teaching and Training Office of the Business School and Deputy Dean of the School of Economics, shared the school's practical experience and reflections on graduate training and management. Chen Zhe, Deputy Minister of the Faculty Affairs Department, gave a talk themed "Adhering to Rule Guidance, Upholding the Bottom Line of Teacher Ethics," guiding advisors to abide by professional norms and fulfill their educational duties. Finally, Professor Zhou Xiang from the School of Education at Renmin University of China, and Director of the Center for Education Rule of Law and Education Economics, was invited to interpret the effective implementation of the "Degree Law" and the legal fulfillment of advisors' duties, helping advisors accurately grasp policy requirements and legal norms.

The "Innovation and Education" graduate advisor exchange meeting is a flagship project for strengthening the advisor team at our university and has been held for 25 consecutive sessions. It has played an important role in continuously improving advisors' educational abilities and effectively enhancing the quality of graduate training.
